Cubiks recently carried out a research study, which revealed that 60% of individuals had left a company or a role specifically because of the actions of a poor line manager. In addition, 71% said that a poor manager had caused them to underperform on a professional level.

As these statistics demonstrate, poor managers can have a dramatic adverse impact on performance at both an individual and wider organisational level. Talented people need coaching, attention and recognition. They look for challenges, want to stretch themselves and require focus in their activities. If their managers are unable to provide this, either through lack of experience or coaching skills, then they will inevitably be the cause of high attrition rates or costly underperformance.
