The interview is very often the most crucial stage in the entire assessment process, whether it is carried out for recruitment, development or performance management purposes. Frequently it sees the employer and participant meeting face-to-face for the first time. As such, it provides the employer with an excellent opportunity to explore any areas of concern they might have over the person’s suitability for the role.
However, if the interviewer doesn’t know which questions will elicit a meaningful response from the participant, or hasn’t had time to prepare properly for the interview, then it is highly unlikely that they will find satisfactory answers to their questions. As a consequence, they will conclude the meeting knowing little more than when it started, and have no other option than to make an ill-informed selection decision.

Programme participants learn how to focus on the competency areas that are of critical importance to a role, and then probe these areas in detail by asking the individual to both describe and reflect on their experiences.
